Urethral diverticula is an uncommon condition that occurs when a fluid-filled pocket or unwanted sac forms along the urethra, which is the tube urine goes through as it exits the body. This pocket can become infected and lead to other complications. Symptoms indicating urethral diverticulum may be present include painful urination, pain during sexual intercourse, blood in the urine, urinary frequency, and recurrent bladder infections. Because these symptoms are often associated with other bladder issues, it's important to get a professional diagnosis, and Dr. Shenelle Wilson can determine if you are dealing with urethral diverticula. Contact Metro Atlanta Urology and Pelvic Health Center in Kennesaw, GA to learn more.

Urethral diverticula (UD) typically occurs as a result of a weakened urethral wall in women who have had multiple bladder infections. A block in the glands near the urethra may also cause this condition as well. This unwanted pocket may be present at birth or develop over time. To treat a UD, surgery is the preferred method. Dr. Wilson may either drain the fluid from the sac or remove the sac entirely, depending on its size. During the UD surgery, she may also be able to address other urinary incontinence issues. You will most likely need to take antibiotics for at least 24 hours after surgery and may have a catheter placed for 2 – 3 weeks to help with emptying your bladder as you heal.

I love how she listens. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
