Urethral diverticula is an uncommon condition that occurs when a fluid-filled pocket or unwanted sac forms along the urethra, which is the tube urine goes through as it exits the body. This pocket can become infected and lead to other complications. Symptoms indicating urethral diverticulum may be present include painful urination, pain during sexual intercourse, blood in the urine, urinary frequency, and recurrent bladder infections. Because these symptoms are often associated with other bladder issues, it's important to get a professional diagnosis, and Dr. Shenelle Wilson can determine if you are dealing with urethral diverticula. Contact Metro Atlanta Urology and Pelvic Health Center in Kennesaw, GA to learn more.

Urethral diverticula (UD) typically occurs as a result of a weakened urethral wall in women who have had multiple bladder infections. A block in the glands near the urethra may also cause this condition as well. This unwanted pocket may be present at birth or develop over time. To treat a UD, surgery is the preferred method. Dr. Wilson may either drain the fluid from the sac or remove the sac entirely, depending on its size. During the UD surgery, she may also be able to address other urinary incontinence issues. You will most likely need to take antibiotics for at least 24 hours after surgery and may have a catheter placed for 2 – 3 weeks to help with emptying your bladder as you heal.

It took me 72 years & 11 surgeries to FINALLY find a GREAT DOCTOR & SURGEON!! I thought my guts were falling out! She fit me in as a new patient immediately with an emergency situation. She was thorough, gentle, concerning & answered all my questions so that I understood. She’s warm, friendly & caring. Like a friend! She gave me options . I made my decision. I needed a Pelvic Prolapse. She returns my texts quickly!!!! Never had a Dr do that! She has a wonderful staff… Isabella & Brian. Just a wonderful experience during a scary time. Thank You isn’t enough❤️

Dr. Wilson is unlike any provider I have had. With her background as both a urologist and urogynecologist, I realized I was missing a lot of things during my annual gynecology appointment that Dr. Wilson is able to address with her specialization and experience. I feel amazing and have been able to wean off my SSRI with targeted bioidentical hormone therapy under Dr. W’a care. I am so grateful, thank you for helping me live my best life!

I love Brian and Dr. Wilson!!I had a problem with some cysts and Dr. Wilson was able to help surgically remove them when my gynecologist and dermatologist could not. They genuinely care about their patients and we need more people in the healthcare system like them! Would recommend!
