Contact UsWhat Is Urodynamics?
Urodynamics refers to a set of tests that are performed to examine the bladder’s ability to retain and release urine completely. These tests focus on the lower urinary tract, which includes the bladder, urethra, and sphincter muscles. Urodynamic tests are also used to measure the flow of urine, nerve function, and bladder pressure. Dr. Shenelle Wilson may use one or more of these tests if you are experiencing issues with urinary incontinence. Some urodynamic tests offered at our Kennesaw, GA office are cystometry, electromyography, and uroflowmetry. To learn more about these tests, call Metro Atlanta Urology and Pelvic Health Center to schedule an appointment.
Why Is Urodynamics Performed?
Chronic illness, injury, aging, and pregnancy can cause problems in the urinary system. The bladder and urethral muscles weaken with age, increased pressure, and a decrease in estrogen. Weak muscles may cause trouble in emptying the bladder completely or more commonly, urinary incontinence. Reasons you might have urodynamic testing done may include:
- Frequent urination
- Involuntary release of urine, also called urinary incontinence
- Sudden, strong urges to urinate
- Painful urination
- Trouble emptying your bladder completely
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- You are considering having surgery
